Each holiday season our team at inFlow looks for organizations that make positive changes in their communities. This year we’ve chosen to donate $3,000 to The United Way of Hunterdon County and The United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades.
A major focus of their efforts are for ALICE households. Those are families that are Asset Limited, Income Constrained and Employed, meaning they often hold more than one job and still can’t afford basics like housing and food.
According to recent statistics, 27% of the population in Hunterdon County and 47% of homes in Lee, Hendry, and Glades are ALICE. These households work hard and contribute meaningfully to their local communities, but they don’t have any safety net in case anything goes wrong.

The United Way of Hunterdon County offers many programs to provide scholarships and school supplies to students, as well as offer mental health resources and financial services. Last year they helped over 1,500 families to file their taxes to yield more than $1.5M in refunds.
The United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades offers similar aid to three counties in Florida. They also help veterans to navigate and access services and offer Beesley’s Paw Prints–a program that schedules therapy dog visits to nursing facilities and hospitals. Their latest impact report shows that they’ve helped over 50,000 people to address issues like food insecurity, access to shelter, and making their utility payments.
We invite you to give however much you can to these two organizations or donate to United Way Worldwide if you’d prefer to give to a broader group.
